What is Somatic Experiencing?

When our bodies experience trauma, the sympathetic nervous system builds up energy and can create chronic stress in both mind and body. Somatic Experiencing is a therapeutic strategy that offers a framework to identify trauma, as well as the suppressed emotions and held physical stress around it.

When combined with intentional movement, Somatic Experiencing will promote somatic healing and reorient your nervous system back to rest and digest, instead of getting stuck in fight or flight.

 
 

As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I will guide you through Somatic Experiencing and mindful movement to ultimately restore functionality in your nervous system.

SOMATIC MOVEMENT

Somatic movement is the processing of held stress and trauma in your body through mindful movement and your physiology.

As your Somatic Experience Practitioner, I will hold space for vulnerability as I guide you through somatic movement to release any stored or past trauma and expand your capacity for nervous system resilience.

 

SOMATIC YOGA

Somatic movement in yoga combines the power of somatic experiencing with the mind body connection of yoga.

I will guide you through emotionally and physically processing held stress, through asana, pranayama, and meditation, while enhancing resilience in the nervous system.

+ WHO IS SOMATIC EXPERIENCING FOR?

Somatic experiencing is for anyone who has experienced any kind of physical or emotional trauma. Often as a result, the body is caught in a fight or flight state, creating a buildup of chronic stress and discomfort. Because fight or flight is meant to be a short-term response, the long-term production of stress hormones can leave long-lasting, negative impacts on the body. Somatic experiencing can help uncover those impacts and unlock the associated emotions.

As a somatic experiencing practitioner, I am trained in guiding clients safely through their feelings so they can start healing. Somatic healing fosters self-compassion, supports self and community care while encouraging safety, expanding resiliency and strengthening coping skills.

Although it may sound intimidating, the positive effects of somatic experiencing can be life changing and provide much needed relief in a safe and controlled way. Somatic healing can cultivate centeredness and create more capacity for empathy for yourself and others. Combining somatic experiencing with my other offerings can be even more impactful and provide compounding benefits.


+ HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY SOMATIC EXPERIENCING SESSION?

The most important way to prepare for your somatic experiencing session is to be open to being vulnerable and trusting your body, and knowing the healing process can be slow. I am here to help create a safe space to guide you along your journey to healing, health and wellness, at your pace.

Please come with any questions you have. I am happy to answer them, and this process can immediately create connection, foster understanding, and build trust.

It’s helpful for your somatic experiencing session to be comfortable, so make sure you have plenty of space around you and if you want to have extra pillows, a blanket, water, tea or anything else that would provide you additional support, feel free to set yourself up with anything you need.
