Essential oils for an epic savasana
Yoga and aromatherapy go hand in hand. I find that the added benefit of aromatherapy to a yoga practice can help you go deeper into the mind-body connection and result in a more peaceful rest. If you have come to one of my yoga classes before, you know that I have a few favorite aromatherapy blends that I love to offer. Since we are not practicing together in the studios right now, I thought it would be helpful to share what essential oils I use for added relaxation. I like to put a drop into my hands, rub them together and take a few deep breaths with my hands a few inches away from my nose before settling into the final resting pose. Here are my favorite essential oils for an epic savasana.
Breathe Respiratory Blend
This essential oil blend contains Laurel, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Lemon, Cardamom, Ravintsara, and Ravensara. I love using this blend when I am feeling congested, when I need to remember to take a deep breath, and before going to sleep. This oil is a little bit strong, so I always remind people not to put it anywhere near your eyes or other sensitive skin.
Serenity Restful Blend
This essential oil blend contains Lavender, Cedarwood, Ho Wood, Ylang Ylang, Marjoram, Roman Chamomile, Vetiver, Vanilla, and Hawaiian Sandalwood. I love using this blend to enhance the feeling of deep rest in savasana, it reminds me to let go of the last hour and really enjoy the opportunity for complete and total relaxation.
Clary Calm Monthly Blend for Women
This blend contains Clary Sage, Lavender, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Fennel, Carrot Seed, Palmarosa, and Vitex. Clary Calm was formulated for a woman’s menstrual cycle, but I like to use this blend any time of the month to help balance my mood and emotions.
Elevation Joyful Blend
This essential oil blend contains Lavandin, Tangerine, Lavender, Amyris, Clary Sage, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Ho Wood, Osmanthus, Lemon, and Melissa. I like to use this oil at the beginning of practice or in the morning, because of its light, citrus scent. It makes me feel awake and warm, and is perfect to use on cold winter days to remind you of the summer sunshine.
Balance Grounding Blend
This essential oil blend contains Spruce, Ho Wood, Frankincense, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus in a base of Fractionated Coconut Oil. I usually use this blend when I need to feel more rooted and connected, because the scent reminds me of taking a calming walk through a deep forest. If you are feeling extra anxious, I recommend using this at the beginning AND end of your yoga practice.
